Mino ware

by BON ETO Vikings

It is a general term for pottery produced in the cities of Tajimi, Toki, Tanami, and Kasahara, which occupy the eastern part of the Mino region in Gifu Prefecture, on the western edge of the area known as the Tono region.

This region is rich in clay, the raw material for pottery, and fuel for firing kilns, so pottery production began around the Kofun period.
Since the early modern period, independent production areas have been established in each mountain basin formed by rivers such as the Toki River and its tributaries, and these continue to exist to this day.

Mino ware produces the various pottery items that surround us, supported by a long history and tradition.
In particular, tableware production accounts for more than 50% of the national market share, and it is no exaggeration to say that it represents Japanese pottery.

Ceramics are used casually in our daily lives and blend into our lives without us even realizing it.
That is Mino ware.
